Marks Sheets
If you are currently pursuing a bachelor's degree, you will need to submit the certificates you have received up until now. This includes your 10th and 12th-grade marks sheets, as well as any semester marks sheets that you have completed. Some colleges call them memos, some call them mark sheets, and some refer to them as grade sheets. Some universities may require you to submit transcripts, which can be obtained by applying to the university where you studied your bachelor's degree.
If you have already completed your degree, you will need to submit all of your semester marks sheets (including any backlogs) along with a consolidated mark memo/sheet.
Degree Certificate
If you have not yet completed your bachelor's degree, you can apply for a provisional certificate from your college. This certificate confirms that you are currently studying at the university and have not yet completed your degree. If you have already completed your degree, you will need to submit the degree certificate that you received in your name. If you have not yet received your original degree certificate, a provisional certificate will also be accepted.
GRE
Some universities require that you take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) as part of the application process. However, in recent years, some universities have waived this requirement. You should check the specific requirements of the universities you are applying to. Most universities will accept unofficial GRE results, which can be downloaded in PDF format from the GRE portal. Some universities may require you to submit official scores from the testing agency, in which case you will need to submit the official report from ETS.
English Proficiency Test
To prove that you have sufficient proficiency in English, you will need to take one of the main English proficiency tests such as IELTS, TOEFL, or DUOLINGO. Most universities will accept IELTS, so it is recommended that you take this test. However, if you prefer not to take the IELTS, you can take either TOEFL or DUOLINGO. Note that only a few universities accept these tests except for IELTS.
Letter of Recommendation (LOR)
A letter of recommendation is a document that you will need to obtain from a professor who taught you during your bachelor's degree. Most universities require no more than three LORs. It is best if you can obtain a recommendation letter from a Ph.D. scholar. Some universities require you to prepare your own LOR, which should then be signed and stamped by your professors. When you apply for the university, you should provide the professor's contact details so that they can submit the LOR directly.
Statement of Purpose (SOP)
An SOP is a document that explains why you want to study the chosen course and what you hope to learn from the university. Universities have some rules and restrictions when they ask for an SOP. Check the university website and alter your SOP accordingly. Make sure to prepare your SOP without any vocabulary, word redundancy, grammatical mistakes, etc. Making an impressive SOP can take a lot of time, and it is recommended that you start working on it early. You can use your senior's SOP as a reference.
Personal Statement (PS)
Although similar to the SOP, the PS is a separate document that explains your personal interests and reasons for studying the chosen course. Some universities require an SOP, while others require a PS. Make sure you check the requirements carefully before submitting your application.
Resume/CV
Try to make a crisp and concise resume or curriculum vitae that highlights your educational qualifications, skills, work experience, achievements, and any other relevant information. Your resume should be visually appealing and easy to read. You can use online tools like Canva or Adobe Spark to create an impressive resume.
Passport
A passport is a must-have document if you are planning to study abroad. Your passport should have a validity of at least 6 months from the date of travel. So, make sure to apply for a passport well in advance and have it with you.
Research Paper
This mostly remains optional for applications. To sustain in the competition and keep your profile competitive having some research experience helps a lot. Having at least a couple of research paper publications should get you going.
Financial Documents
Some universities require you to provide proof of your financial capability to support your education and living expenses during your stay abroad, right before your admission. So, you should have sufficient funds in your bank account or your sponsor's account. You may also need to provide other financial documents like income tax returns, bank statements, etc.
Additional Documents
If you have any additional documents that you think help with your profile enhancement, then make sure to add those documents. If the university you are applying to asks for any other documents not mentioned in the list, check in advance and have a copy of them.
Conclusion
In conclusion, pursuing a master's degree abroad is a dream for many students. But, it involves a lot of planning, preparation, and documentation. Make sure to research the universities and programs, prepare the necessary documents, and apply well in advance. With the right approach and guidance, you can make your dream of studying abroad a reality. Good luck!
